REVIEW

There’s not much to say I can say more about this unfinished Gaudi masterpiece - the whole Basilica is a grand love letter from Gaudi to the city of Barcelona and the Catholic Church. The amount of work put into building this basilica is almost maniacal - it’s been under construction for over 140 years, after all.

We went up the Nativity Tower, but I would not recommend it for the price. I would say that you’d be good to skip that - at least until the construction is finished (expected 2026). The scaffolding and construction around that area of the basilica obstruct your view of the city and it’s also cumbersome to go down the tower by foot (especially at the price point they’re charging).

Fun fact from a local: Unlike other famous churches in the city, the Sagrada Familia charges so much for admission because it’s owned by a financial institution, not the municipality. Profit is the priority.

Do I recommend the Sagrada Familia?

HOT TIPS

  1. Bring earphones for the audioguide. The guide is accessible through the Basilica’s official app, you can also download it ahead of time. Otherwise, there’s wi-fi on the property, so no need to stress if you forget.

  2. Unless you really want to, I wouldn’t recommend climbing the towers. You have to pay extra for underwhelming views of Barcelona. If your reason for going up is to see Barcelona’s skyline, you’d have a better experience for a fraction of the price atop the Barcelona Cathedral or Parc Guell.
